Holy Cow, its April!

Whoops.  Apparently I took some more time off without realizing it.

Things have been sort of chaotic for me the last 6 months or so.  Nothing too crazy, but I’ve been busy with work and family and havne’t had a lot of time for working on Gunpla models.

In fact, I haven’t even tried using my new air compressor I bought a while back!
But that’s going to change.  I’m going to be making a big  push to get motivated.  I’ve got the MG RGM-79 to prime and get working on, as well as the other GM units I need to finish.  I need to learn to balance my Gundam and Transformers interests better so they don’t dominate the other for stretches of time.

But we’re getting a kitten soon and I need to figure out how to set up my airbrush in my office as it will be her room as well and I don’t want to have her dealing with all that.

So…..long story short – Korewa Gundam will be more active soon, but there’s a lot to do still around the house!

MS Gundam Extreme VS new DLC Tomorrow 1/26

Ah, good, the new DLC will be released tomorrow for Gundam Vs. Extreme.

This will include:

Freedom Gundam

Hi-Nu Gundam (For those who didn’t get the code included in the game.  I did, so I already have the Hi-Nu.)

I’m looking forward the the Freedom.  Say what you will about Seed and its Characters, I do like the designs of the series and I’ve always liked the Freedom (much more than the Strike Freedom, which seems like a Hi-Nu rehash).

I’ll probably get the Zeong at some point too, but I’m hoping we’ll see a few more DLC units released.

Current Projects – Gundam…and Transformers

So I’ve got two projects going on right now:

First – the MG 1/100 RGM 79 GM

I’m not going to be doing anything too special with the GM – its going to be part of my 3 MS, 0081 GM diorama (or display) – no color changes or anything like that, just my usual detailing parts.

Now, while I’m slow to get really underway on the GM, I’m currently working on a much easier, unrelated Transformers project.

Before KO Toys went out of business (DANG YOU HAS/TAK!!!) – I was able to pick up the DIY Sideswipe kit, which is a not assembled Classics/Universe Sideswipe, available in various colors.  I picked up Black.   The pieces come sort of scrambled and its up to the buy to be able to assemble the figure correctly, but luckily, I have both Red Alert (a Sideswipe Redeco) and SunStreaker who uses an identical mold.

So I’ll have to paint the parts I need colored.  I’m going to hand paint things because, 1.) I’m lazy, and 2.) this isn’t a gunpla and so I’m not going to put the effort into it like I would a Gunpla kit.

But I’m going to make the figure into the Stunticon, Wildrider!

For those of you who don’t know much about the G1/Classics universe of Transformers,  The Stunticons were a team of four cars and a semi (Wild Rider, Breakdown, Deadend, Dragstrip and Motomaster) who could combine into a Gesalt Robot: Menasor.  I had the original G1 figured back when I was a kid, and seems the DIY SideSwipe kit came with the Resculpted Breakdown head from Botcon 2010 – I’m going to make a pretty cool Wildrider with it (Seems I have a Breakdown, who’s white and thus, not ideal for this kit).

So that, plus Skyrim on PS3 are my current projects (and DC Universe Online and Gundam Vs Extreme….)

NEW MS Gundam Extreme Vs DLC Coming

But “Meh”…I say.   MEH.

The O and Katajina’s custom whatever it’s called (I never bothered to learn the names of the V Gundam MS…)

Bleh.   After starting with the BD-1, this is kind of a let down, but I’m guessing they’re going to keep the DLC coming for a bit, so that’s good.  I’m hoping we’ll get:

Gundam Mk II (AEUG and Titans)

G3 Gundam (with Sayla Mass?)

Gundam Nataku or Sandrock

Gundam Leopard

Impulse Gundam

MS Gundam Extreme Vs – EDITORIAL

I need to recant a statement in my last post – MS GE Vs’ “Mission” mode is actually far more involved that I understood it to be, which is awesome!

So…..wow…this game right now is unstoppable.

My new favorite move:  Using the Double X’s stun move, where it throws one of its beam sabers at an enemy to stun it and keep it still, then unleashing the dual satellite cannons.  Sure its a little over kill, but then again, what isn’t in this game, haha.

End of the Day – Edit –

Mission mode is now my all time favorite!!  You can use any MS, and earn points to level up your units stats.  My X1 kai now starts each mission with 800 HP!  WOOT!  LOVE IT!

Christmas Loot – MS Gundam Extreme VS for PS3

I must have been pretty good this year, because part of my Christmas loot included this little gem:

MS Gundam Extreme Vs is the 10th anniversary addition to the “Vs” series.  While I haven’t actually played any of the arcade versions, I have been playing the series since EFSF vs Zeon DX on Dreamcast (lol, remember Dreamcast?  I loved that system!)

While the general mechanics of the series have stayed, for the most part, roughly the same – dash, shoot, melee, repeat – GE Vs has some much needed and much enjoyed changes.   For starters, every single unit can now block, regardless if it carries a shield or not.  For instance – the Gundam Heavy Arms EW version, doesn’t carry a shield, but it can block incoming attacks with its Gatling gun.  Not that blocking has always been a mainstay of the VS series.  In the early games, chance blocking would happen only if your shield (if carried) faced the attack.  Around the time of Renpou vs. ZAFT (Seed Vs) – they added the “down, up” command to block.   But quite frankly, the action moves so fast in these games that blocking is kind of a very VERY last resort.

GE Vs also features some tweaks to weapon systems and “special” attacks.  The Strike Gundam, for instance, can swap out its weapon set to any of the Striker packs (including the awesome IWSP pack), but you are limited to only being able to switch after a given cool down.

You can also now choose your path through the arcade levels – from Easy to VERY HARD!!!, you can move up or down in difficulty as  you move along.

Also, like the PSP, Gundam Vs. Gundam, this game features a “boss” character, a new Gundam unit made specifically for the game that can equip various MASSIVE armor sets (sort of like the ride armors from Mega Man X) – and can really lay a beat down on the player.

The game also features a GREAT selection of MS to choose from, including several of my favorites: Gundam DX (X), Crossbone Gundam X1 (Crossbone) and the Hi-Nu Gundam (CCA-N) which is only available if you get the download code in  your copy (which I believe most current copies come with.)

DLC is now up as well, two new MS, A Gundam from 00 that I’m not familiar with (someone will likely fill me in) and the Blue Destiny Unit 1 from Gundam Side Story!

I picked up the BD-1 today and it is AWESOME.  The machine gun is quite powerful,  your get chest rockets that pack a BIG punch, the ability to call in a GM for support, and a boost extender.  Yu Kojima’s voice is great too, as sometimes Bandai takes the lame “Yu doesn’t talk” approach.    Your “unleashed” power of course, is the Exam System, which makes  you much faster and stronger, and your melee attach changes from a beam saber, to a grapple and slam attack.   And for only 2000 point cost, the BD-1 is a BEAST seems you can die a few time without risking the mission.

There is also, of course an online community where players can compete against one anther.  I haven’t tried this out too much yet, but if someone else wants to try it out, let me know and I’ll send you my PSN name.

Finally, there is a somewhat disappointing “mission” mode, where as in AEUG Vs Titans and EFSF vs Zeon (PS2), there were 100+ missions for each faction, this mode is more like completing various challenges to unlock more “missions”.  Its okay, but I was hoping for more.

So, all in all, Gundam Extreme vs has the ability to even trump 0081 in my all time favorite Gundam Games.   The difficulty against the CPU can be, at times, maddening, but with such great controls, MS choices and fun, I keep coming back for more!  (and usually just play on the Easy – medium levels, haha).

Starting work on the MG GM as well.  But with GE vs, Skyrim and DC Universe Online currently dominating my free time, its been slow going.
