Alex Project

January 28, 2010 by aptkane

Not too much of an update today:

Ordered decals from samueldecal.com -

Here’s the inner frame of the Alex -

Sure love Tamiya Metallic Grey.

That’s all for now.  I’ve been working on some mods, even thought I didn’t think I was going to.  I’ve already mentioned that I’m trying to add another set of thrusters to the backpack (ala Gundam Ver. Ka) – but I’ve added some bolting detail to the head and am considering doing a “Full Armor Light” version, but we’ll see.  The Full Armor parts are in bad shape from my move 5 years ago.

YaRe YaRe…

January 15, 2010 by aptkane

So what have I been up too since New Years?  Mainly this:

Goo blimey, this is by far, the most addictive Gundam Game I’ve ever played…and I’ve played every SD Gundam game since No. 1 on Play Station.

It is outstanding in every aspect and if you truly love the UC Gundam Universe as I do, you need to pick it up (given you have a PS3 too).

The roster of available MS is just great, and with added DLC MS, there’s no telling how much time you can put into the game.

I’ll do an official review later, but I just thought I’d let you guys know what’s caused the lack of posts this time.  If you have 0081 and you play online, my gamer tag is ViperEye82  – I’m a Federation pilot and currently using the GP01Fb or Powered Gm…two of my all time favorites.

But I am slowly working on re-doing my MG Gundam Alex as well…but the issue with “re-doing” a kit I’ve already build, is I have sand down my shoddy first paint job in order to airbrush the new one on.  But I’m just about done with that chore, and soon I’ll be re-painting.  I plan on striping the colors like I did with the S Gundam – as well as adding metal joint washers for the legs and as mentioned the dual thruster set up for the back pack.

I’ll keep you posted (Or at least try if I can pull myself away from Senki!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR

December 24, 2009 by aptkane

I just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays and all the best for the New Year.

I’m going to be taking a break from any modeling until after the New Year, but then I’ll be right back in step.

Next Project – Gundam Alex Revamped

December 10, 2009 by aptkane

Next up, I’m going to be revising my MG Gundam Alex.

There’s not going to be too much in terms of mods, but I do have a few customizations I’ll be making (i.e, duel thrusters ala Gundam Ver. Ka) – just all in all a new paint job and some minor fixes.

I’ll keep you posted -

1/100 RX-79 BD1 Master Grade Blue Destiny Conversion

December 7, 2009 by aptkane

Finally done…

Now, just for reference sake, let’s take a look at where the Blue Destiny started from:

Original

Ver. 1

After using the arms for the Gundam Double X, I had to find an alternative, which I found by modifying old MkII arms.  I then wanted to go with my own touch, and revamped the entire design using three concepts:  the Gundam GPO1 FB, Gundam Hazel, and Giren’s Greed’s “What if ” idea.

Most of the Gunpla SG parts I ordered were incorporated into this kit.  I saved a few thrusters for my next couple of projects.

Alternate Shield

As for the back pack….

Some of you I guess didn’t like the design…which I guess I can’t help, but I’m pretty pleased with the final result.  You see, the Blue Destiny’s designer was initial a Zeon scientist (if I recall correctly) – and I thought the lower thrusters would look good resembling a bit of the Zeon design that’s seen under the skirt armor of the Dom or Gelgoog.  But then the upper thrusters I wanted as a sort of Prototype Full Vernier design, or, if you look at the Blue Destiny 2 and 3, the extended thrusters on the back.  Either way, it gives the Blue Destiny a faster, more maneuverable set up.

I added thrusters to the back of the legs as well, in light of the Giren’s Ambition “What If” idea, my redesign of the Blue Destiny incorporates the idea: What if Yu Kojima didn’t let the Blue 1 get trashed by Nimbus after their first duel?  Therefore its redesigned in order to function in space.

Weapons:

I love the idea of the Gundam Hazel being a test bed for new weaponry and this picture by Windfall inspired the machine gun design:

So therefore, I tried to replicate the Blue Destiny 1’s machine gun using some parts I had available:

I call it the compressed high velocity machine gun.

Then there’s the short ranged Beam Rifle – packs a powerful punch but has limited reach, perfect for high speed assults

Gunpla SG Metal Beam Rifle Barrel

And of course, Medium Shield and Dual Beam Sabers (only one pictured)

So there we are – and of course, a Hazel-esque pose with both ranged weapons:

The CHV MG is a bit heavy unfortunately...

The forearm where the shield attaches was supposed to look better.  I might go back an fix that eventually, but you don’t normally see it due to the shield so its not the highest priority just yet.

That’s all for now – I have a bunch of things in the works:
Review of Gundam Crossfire for PS3

Review of SD Gundam G Generation Wars for PS2

Re-work/Paint my MG RX-78 NT-1 Alex

Hopefully order the GP04 Conversion kit for my old MG Gp01

And more…

Until next time – Jaa -

20 Days!?

November 30, 2009 by aptkane

Jeeze, I didn’t realize it’s been 20 days since my last update.

Anywho – here in the states, last Thursday was Thanksgiving,  marking the start of the Holiday season.  So things will be a bit crazy for the rest of the year, but I still plan on getting a lot done on my project list.

I’ve picked up a PS3 (finally) and actually picked up MS Gundam: Crossfire for like $7 bucks.  It’s a great game.  People seem to hate it for some reason, but I truly have enjoyed playing it, and will do a review on it as soon as I can get around to it.

My order from SG Gunpla arrived right on time, and I’m thrilled with the metal upgrade parts.  I’m still working on the Blue Destiny project, and will hopefully finish this week, but don’t hold me to that.  In the meantime, here’s a peek at the torso/backpack.

GunplaSG – Check it out!

November 10, 2009 by aptkane

Hey gang,

So I’m pretty excited – I found a new site today that offers a really great (and better yet AFFORDABLE) selection of Gunpla kits and supplies.

The site is called GunplaSG – and they have one particular item I’ve been looking all over for – METAL UPGRADE PARTS – I just bought a bunch of thrusters and even a set of beam rifle barrels this afternoon, I can’t wait, and will be utilizing them with the Blue Destiny Project.
They also have the resin Shot Lancer weapon for the Crossbone Gundam X1 & 2- I want to pick that up and maybe I’ll even get the combo set which includes better thrusters and revamp my X1 next.
Anyway, definitely check this place out – I know I’ll be going back for more supplies -

What Have I Been Working On?

November 9, 2009 by aptkane

Well…a couple of things:

First  -

IMG_0407

I have Bandai/Namco to blame for my lack of progress on other projects.  SD Gundam G Generation Wars is quite a handful.  The game encompasses everything from Mobile Suit Gundam through OO Gundam, and is broken up between four senarios – Original Generation (0079 through 0133 V Gundam), Another Generation (G Gundam through Turn A Gundam), New Generation (Seed through OO Gundam) and Ex Generation, which is a series of challange missions.
The game is pretty amazing.  It uses the same engine as G Generation Spirits – but for obvious reasons, the stories are vastly abridged to make room.

Still, I’m about 30 hours in and still loving it.  There’s nothing like Kira Yamato piloting the Strike Noir, joining Garod Ran in the X Divider duking it out with Char in the Nightingale.

The other project I’ve been working on is the Blue Destiny (again).

After much delibertating – I’ve decided to rework the entire model from the ground up.  When I first picked up the conversion kit, it came with the parts to make either the Blue Destiny 1 or 2 (or 3 ) – for some rediculous reason, I decided to toss the BD 2 parts…….I have no idea why. SO…..as an alternative, I’m doing my own take on the Blue Destiny Design.  Consider it a Ver. Apt.
So that’s all for the moment. I’ll be working on the Blue Destiny all week and will have some more updates.   Honestly though, I finally picked up a PS3 this weekend so that should be arriving this week too.  We’ll see what happens.  MS Gundam 0081 is out and I’d like to look into that.

Short Break

October 21, 2009 by aptkane

Hey Gang,

I’m still around, but I’m just taking a short break from working on any projects for a week or so until my Wife and I figure out her immigration stuff.

When I get back, I have a small project to finish which should only take a day or so, then I need to find out how to get arms back on the Blue Destiny.  After that, I’m not sure.  I still have the Albion to start, but I’ve also been throwing around the idea of getting the 1/100 HG Savior Gundam, as I think the next MG I get is either going to be the Hi-Nu Gundam or the Sword Impluse, I’m not sure.
I’ll be back next week!
